How Laurel Attic Insulation Was Born

Laurel Attic Insulation started in 2003 with a single frustrating phone call Chase Whitaker watched a friend make. The friend needed attic insulation in a drafty 1950s ranch house. Three companies came out. One quoted a price, then doubled it mid-job. Another finished in two hours, left gaps visible from the attic ladder, and never answered the phone again. The third never showed up at all. Chase stood in that attic with a flashlight, looking at bare spots between the joists while his friend’s kids slept in cold bedrooms below, and thought: this is not a hard promise to keep. Show up when you say you will. Put the price in writing. Do the work right. That afternoon became the seed of what is now Laurel Attic Insulation, part of the Relay Home Co. family.

From that first job, we built the company around a different kind of service: a warmer home, booked and tracked from your phone. Every job gets a written price before any work starts. Every job is covered by The Relay Visibility Guarantee. What began as one independent location has grown into a network of independently owned and operated locations across Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco, Fresno, Long Beach, Oakland, Anaheim, Riverside, Irvine, Santa Ana, and Chula Vista. The scale changed. The standard did not.

Chase Whitaker’s Personal Connection to the Insulation Trade

Chase came into insulation work through the trades, not through a classroom. Early in his working life, he spent a summer on a framing crew. The work was loud and fast, and by July the attic spaces felt like ovens. One afternoon he was up in a newly framed second story, and the tradesman running the job handed him a roll of insulation and told him to fit it between the studs. It was itchy, sweaty work, and Chase was not particularly good at it that first day. But he remembers the smell of the kraft paper, the way the fiberglass pressed into the cavities, and the strange satisfaction of seeing a wall fill up with something that would hold heat in winter and push it back in summer. That was the moment the trade stopped being abstract.

What kept him in it, years later, was the difference it made to people. He has walked into houses where the furnace ran constantly and the upstairs bedrooms never warmed up. He has been in attics where old insulation had settled to the thickness of a bath towel. He has seen the relief on a homeowner’s face when the rooms finally held their temperature. That is what gets him out of bed: not the material itself, but the quiet, invisible work of making a house feel right. If he were not doing this, he would still be building something with his hands. Probably working on old cars, which he thinks have the same lesson as insulation: the parts nobody sees are the ones that matter most.

Meet Chase Whitaker – The Person Behind Every Job

Chase Whitaker is the Owner and Founder of Laurel Attic Insulation. He has spent more than a decade in the insulation trade, learning the materials, the building science, and the difference between a job that looks finished and one that actually is. He has worked with blown-in cellulose and fiberglass, batt insulation, and the practical realities of attics in older California homes. He is not a franchise technician reading from a script. He is a tradesperson who knows what a properly insulated attic looks like from the inside.

One thing that shapes the way Chase runs the company: he is patient about details and impatient about waste. He would rather spend an extra hour sealing air leaks than cover them up and move on. His commitment to the customer is simple, and he states it directly: we treat every home the way we would treat our own, and we do not leave until the job is done right.

Our Promise to Homeowners

Our promise is grounded in how the business actually operates, not in slogans.

We put the price in writing before we start. That is a policy born from watching homeowners get burned by numbers that changed at the door. We give a live arrival time, not a four-hour window. That comes from knowing how much of a family’s day gets eaten by waiting. We send photos of the work before and after, because you should not have to climb into your attic to verify what we did. And every job at every Laurel Attic Insulation location is covered by The Relay Visibility Guarantee. If we cannot track it, we do not do it that way.

Our Credentials

  • Licensed: Every pro working under the Laurel Attic Insulation name is required to hold the license their state requires.
  • Insured & bonded: Coverage is a requirement for every location in the network, not an optional add-on.
  • Founded 2003: We have been refining our process for more than two decades.
  • Network standard: Each location is independently owned and operated, and every one works to The Relay Standard.

Why does this matter to a homeowner? Because the person coming into your attic is covered if something goes wrong, and the company they represent has a documented standard of doing business. A license means the pro has met the state’s bar. Insurance means you are not left holding a bill for an accident on your property. The Relay Standard means the job is booked in a tap, the arrival time is live, and the photos and invoice arrive by text. None of that is optional at our locations.

Rooted in the Communities We Serve

Laurel Attic Insulation is not a faceless chain pretending to be from every town. We are a network of independent local businesses, each with its own owners, its own crews, and its own relationships with the neighborhoods around it. What ties us together is The Relay Standard and the promise behind it: total visibility. When you call, a live coordinator connects you with the location that covers your address. That location knows its own climate, its own building stock, and its own customers. That is the kind of rootedness that matters.
